About Us

Peter and I moved to the Brecon Beacons in 2009 having travelled the world, and the M25, in connection with work

Finding just the right place was not easy as we had an avid sailor and an ambition to own a small holding. We had been coming to the area for years as my sister and mother live here. Finally we found a place to call home.

I visited The Old Rectory for the first time on a beautiful sunny breezy day in April 2007. The view as many guests can testify to is frankly beautiful. Even more so since we did all this fencing to create the small paddock complete with swing seat and fire pit. Did it matter that the house and the then granny annex were not in good shape? No, I could do this I thought. Two years later we got the keys, yes it took that long in the end.

The refurbishment started and for the next 2 years I was the worst paid but most industrious labourer my tradesmen had ever had.

Our sustainability improvements

We improved the energy efficiency of the coach house by replacing the old wooden double glazing and doors with new units. We also added a considerable  quantity of insulation to the roof space. It is surprising how much warmer and cosy the coach house is now.

The light bulbs are all LED. The logs for the log burner come from our own woodland and are dried slowly over time in our barn.

Our latest project was installing solar panels on the barn roof together with battery storage and an EV charger for your use. This has made a big difference during the summer months and if you are interested we can bore you with all the stats from the app. It is a bit addictive!

Our involvement in The Brecon Beacons National Park

I am now a Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park Ambassador and Peter is a Volunteer Warden helping to maintain the paths. We have enjoyed sharing our home and our local knowledge with many guests, having opened for business in 2012. Hopefully you will decide to come and join us in the Brecon Beacons. Whether you are looking for peace and tranqulity or an action packed adventure there is something to suit everyone here.
