The Felin Fach Griffin
The Felin Fach Griffin is one of my favourite places to eat. It is approximately 5 miles from the coach house on the road to Hay on Wye.
It is what people call a dining pub with rooms. They have managed to retain a pub atmosphere with a bar, roaring log fire and very comfy sofas. There are then two dining areas off this main room full of quirky old tables and chairs and a rough quarry floor. In winter the Aga that sits in one of of the rooms will also be lit.
The Food
The lunch menu is a fixed price offering of 2 or 3 courses together with the more casual sharing platters. The price for 2 courses is £21.50 (April 2020). The menu chages frequently but always has a good selection of local produce and fresh items from their vegetable garden.
The dinner menu follows a similar pattern but there is both fixed price and a la carte items. 3 courses are £29 (April 2020). You are in fact free to mix and match across the menu. You need to be sure to leave room for dessert even if one portion and two spoons.
The wine menu is extensive and propbably has something to suit all tastes and budgets. The other particularly good point is that many of them are available by the glass or carafe. Another feature that has developed over the last year is an extensive non alcoholic selection with its own menu.
Finally they also have a seperate vegetarian/vegan/gluten free menu.
It is adviseable to book ahead as it is very popular. It does open 7 days a week unlike many places in the area that are shut on Mondays.
In fine weather it is always possible to sit outside in the large garden and take in the views of the Brecon Beacons.
