The Bear Crickhowell

One of Crickhowell’s iconic landmarks this traditional historic coaching inn dates from 1432. The Bear Crickhowell has been welcoming guests to its bar and rooms for over 500 years.

History

The Coaching Inn was one of the four stops on the London to West Wales and ultimately Ireland by horse drawn coach. The guests were in sore need of a meal, drink and sleep and this tradition has carried on to the present day.

Many signs of it’s historic past remain including a cobbled courtyard and the arched entrance to the stables behind.

There are several rooms to eat as well as a more formal restaurant. You select a table and order at the historic bar.

The menu covers all the usual pub food along with a specials board offering seasonal produce. The good thing about the Bear is that all the tables are not bookable. It is possible to just turn up and get served even on a busy day. The service is excellent and never appears rushed.

On a warm day you can sit out in the garden under the shade of the trees to eat your meal or have a quiet drink.

The Bear Crickhowell is a short drive from Aberyscir Coach House.
