The Royal Welsh Show

This is one of the most important dates in the Welsh agricultural year. School holiday dates are always set so that the children can attend and compete.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society was formed in 1904, and the first show was held in Aberystwyth in the same year.

The society has come a long way since those early days. The three society events; the Smallholding and Countryside Festival, the Royal Welsh Show and the Winter Fair, have become important events in the Welsh agricultural calendar.

This success has allowed for the extensive development of the permanent showground at Llanelwedd. It was first used in 1963, and is set in the heart of the scenic Mid Wales countryside.

The Show

The purpose built showgrounds are suitable for all weather conditions and therefore make a pleasant day out even if it is raining!

The summer show runs over 4 days starting on a Monday. You can easily spend more than a day there. Everything country is on display and so many things to buy that you never realised you needed! Show rings for all the different animals are spread throughout the grounds and the main ring hosts displays from around the world.

The Smallholding and Countryside Festival is held in the spring and is a far smaller show. It is my favourite one to visit and can easily be seen in a day.

It is only a 35 minute drive from the coach house through scenic country roads.
