Walks from Aberyscir Coach House
Sometimes it is good to leave the car and just go for a walk from the coach house. There are a few routes to choose from, some longer than others. In addition there are quite a few more within a short 10 minute drive.
Brecon and Pen Y Crug
As previous guests know you have a clear view of Pen Y Crug from your patio. It has an iron age fort on the top complete with an impressive 5 ramparts still visible.
If the whole route is too much you can walk up Pen Y Crug from either the cathedral side or the layby opposite the footpath on the Cradoc road. The view from the top is absolutely worth it which ever route you choose.
Aberyscir Common
Straight out of your door and up the lane is our own common. The views from the top are worth the initial climb.
Walk up the lane and take the left fork in the road. you will go over a cattle grid and onto the open land where sheep and wild ponies graze. All sorts of birdlife can be seen including the sky larks nesting in the undergrowth. On a clear day there is a panoramic view of the Brecon Beacons. You will cross another cattle grid as you descend. Follow the quiet lane making two more left hand turns. Walk back along the valley to the coach house. Another 7 mile walk but well worth it.
Cefn Lechid
You can do this walk from the coach house but it does add a considerable distance to your route. The alternative is just a quick 10 minute drive up onto Mynydd Common. You can park anywhere that is safe or pay to park at the Visitor Center. A much shorter route is to drive via Defynnog on the A4215 and park at the entrance to the footpath
