Abergavenny Food Festival
The Brecon Beacons has a wide selection of festivals covering food, music, literature and agriculture. One of the most well known is the food festival at Abergavenny. This takes place in the third weekend of September. Entry is by purchased wrist band either for the whole weekend or individual days.
History
It started back in 1999 when two local farmers wanted to win back consumer confidence after the BSE crisis. It’s main aim is to bring good locally grown and sourced food to the public. Over the years it has grown from humble beginnings to a two day festival attracting 30,000 visitors.
Main events
There are stalls offering every imaginable food and drink spread throughout the town. Some of the areas do require a ticket to enter but many are just in the streets. You can taste as well as buy. In addition you can find all those kitchen gadgets you never realised you needed.
The festival has attracted some of the big names over the years including Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Throughout the festival they put on cooking demonstrations and workshops.
They now have an evening market as well to extend the time the festival is open. Events aimed specifically at children also take place throughout the weekend.
